Four Harmonious Friends
HELP US CREATE A LIFE-SIZE STATUE OF THE ‘FOUR HARMONIOUS FRIENDS’
The “Four Harmonious Friends” is one of the most beloved tales in Buddhism. The image of a bird, rabbit and monkey standing on each other’s shoulders on the back of a patient elephant portrays harmony. By working together and using their individual talents, the four friends are able to reach and enjoy the fruit.
We wish to have a visual representation of this message in our Peace Park with a life-size statue of the Four Harmonious Friends. It will be underneath a large tree, with The Great Stupa in the background. Lama Zopa Rinpoche said it is important to have images of the four harmonious brothers as they help to bring harmony and success.
A sculptor from Thailand named Joy resided at The Great Stupa for 3 months last year when he was able to begin work on the statue. Starting on the elephant, he made the steel frame and used a special type of concrete to bring the enormous Thai elephant to life. The image you see below is Joy with the elephant as it stands today.
We want to bring Joy back to Australia to complete the Four Harmonious Friends statue. Joy is generously offering his labour – we are asking for your help to cover his airfare to Australia, his accommodation and the cost of building materials – totalling $6,800.
Contributions of all sizes make a big difference. Please share our campaign with your friends, family and colleagues!
