DONATION GOAL ACHIEVED – Tibetan ceiling masterpiece
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! We’ve met our donation goal thanks to all of our wonderful donors!!
His Holiness the Dalai Lama said The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion “will be very significant for the preservation of Tibetan culture”. To date we have been so busy focusing on construction that we have not had much chance to help keep Tibetan culture alive in Australia. This is about to change.
We are very excited to share with you the news that Lobsang Konchunk, a renowned Tibetan artist, has agreed to come to Bendigo to paint the arched ceiling inside The Great Stupa. This celestial canopy will be a modern masterpiece of Tibetan artwork. We’re hoping it will be finished in time to cover our guru Lama Zopa Rinpoche during his 2018 retreat at The Great Stupa.
The arch with its traditional offering goddesses, sky and clouds is expected to take up to five months to complete.
7 October 2017: Construction of the arch completed and all surfaces prepared.
29 October 2017: Lobsang arrives in Bendigo to start painting of the arch.
23 March 2018: Arch “celestial canopy” artwork is complete.
30 March 2018: Lama Zopa Rinpoche commences retreat – teaching under the arch!
Costs for remuneration, accommodation, food and artist materials is estimated to be $39,500.
